MINERAL WOOL INSULATION
Mineral Wool Insulation: Go Batts. Go Blow In.

MINERAL WOOL
Superior thermal performance with naturally-occurring sound absorption as well as rock-like fire and moisture resistance.
When you need an insulation material that performs, lasts, and stands up to the toughest jobs, mineral wool insulation is the solution you’ve been looking for. Whether you’re working with batts or loose fill mineral wool, both options provide superior thermal, sound dampening, and fire-resistant properties. As an experienced insulation contractor, you know the importance of getting the job done right, and mineral wool is a tool you need in your arsenal. At Performance Pro Supply, we’ve got the best of both worlds — reliable mineral wool batts and blow to deliver high performance for any job.
Why Mineral Wool Insulation (Excuse the Pun) Rocks
Unmatched Fire Resistance
Both batt and loose-fill mineral wool come with superior fire-resistant properties. The material we carry is made from rock, so it’s naturally fire-resistant, capable of withstanding temperatures exceeding 1,800°F. That means mineral wool insulation doesn’t just help with thermal regulation — it’s an essential component in fireproofing structures, whether you’re working on a commercial build, a multi-family project, or upgrading a residential property. With mineral wool, you’re providing fire-rated assemblies that meet the toughest codes.
Soundproofing Like No Other
When it comes to noise reduction, mineral wool insulation is in a class of its own. The dense fibers trap sound, making it ideal for sound dampening. Whether you’re insulating walls, floors, or ceilings in offices, apartments, or homes, mineral wool reduces noise transmission effectively. Blown in mineral wool insulation is perfect for retrofit projects where adding soundproofing is a priority without tearing down walls.
Natural and Sustainable Performance
Unlike fiberglass, mineral wool insulation is often made from natural rock, making it an eco-friendly choice for your projects. It’s a durable material that naturally resists mold, moisture, and pests, offering long-term performance without the need for constant maintenance. Plus, since it doesn’t contain the harmful chemicals contained in fiberglass, it’s a healthier choice for both installers and building occupants.
Key Benefits of Mineral Wool Insulation
- Fire-Resistant – Protects your structure with a melting point over 1,800°F
- Sound Absorbtion – Ideal for reducing noise transfer between rooms and from the outside
- Eco-Friendly – Made from natural, sustainable materials (volcanic rock and recycled slag)
- Long-Lasting – Doesn’t degrade, absorb moisture, or support mold growth
- Chemical-Free – Loose-fill mineral wool provides natural benefits without any chemicals
- Energy-efficient – Helps reduce heating and cooling costs by improving insulation
- Mold-resistant – No worries about degradation or creating a breeding ground for mold
Our Mineral Wool Insulation Options
Mineral Wool Batt Insulation
Mineral wool batts are easy to handle and install between studs, rafters, or joists. They’re great for new builds, insulation upgrades, or areas needing quick, reliable installation. Batts are flexible enough to fit snugly into standard cavities but dense enough to provide top-notch thermal and sound insulation.
We carry Johns Manville mineral wool and ROCKWOOL stone wool.
Blow-In Mineral Wool Insulation
For areas that are harder to reach or retrofit projects, loose-fill mineral wool is the way to go. It’s perfect for existing wall structures, attics, and other tricky spaces where traditional batt insulation might fall short. When blown into place, it completely fills every gap and crevice, providing uniform coverage and superior soundproofing. The best part? It’s easy to install with a professional-grade blowing machine (which we have for sale and rent) and a 4″ corrugated hose at least 150 ft long. Whether you’re tackling a home insulation upgrade or working on a commercial retrofit, loose-fill mineral wool is the answer to a hassle-free, high-performance install.
We sell loose-fill mineral wool from American Rockwool.
FAQs – Mineral Wool Insulation
About the only advantage fiberglass has on mineral wool is price. Mineral wool beats fiberglass in fire resistance, soundproofing, and durability. It’s naturally mold-resistant and doesn’t require chemicals to achieve these qualities. Plus, it’s easier to handle and install.
Batts are pre-formed sheets of insulation that fit between studs, joists, and rafters — they’re perfect for standard cavities in new builds. Loose-fill mineral wool, on the other hand, is ideal for retrofits or filling irregular cavities, such as in walls or attics, where batts can’t do the job. Loose-fill also provides better coverage for soundproofing and fire resistance in existing structures. If you are looking for the most natural option, loose-fill mineral wool doesn’t contain the chemical binders necessary for batts.
With a relatively higher density and weight, blowing mineral wool requires a professional-grade blowing machine for installation. For proper installation, you’ll need at least 150 ft of 4″ corrugated hose and enough power to achieve at least 1.5 PSI at the end of the hose. If you don’t already have a capable insulation blowing machine, you’ll need to rent or purchase the right equipment to get proper coverage. Fortunately, we can help you there too.
Absolutely! Blown mineral wool is ideal for upgrading existing homes, especially when trying to create quieter rooms. Just like other types of blown insulation, blown in mineral wool is great for filling cavities in walls, attics, and other hard-to-reach spaces. Mineral wool batts can also be used in certain areas if you’re adding insulation to open cavities or framing.
With an R-value of roughly R-3.8 to R-4.1 per inch, the American Rockwool loose-fill insulation helps maintain energy efficiency by reducing heat loss in both residential and commercial buildings. Mineral wool batts are available with varying thickness to achieve desired R-values.
Mineral wool is designed to last for decades without losing its effectiveness. It’s resistant to moisture, mold, and degradation, ensuring your insulation will maintain its performance for the life of the building.
